Hunting

Hunting from Ross Ching on Vimeo.

Hunting has been sitting on my hard drive without much exposure for the past few months. The main reason being that I had higher expectations of the final result. The weekend we shot this almost everyone I asked to help me out as crew bailed because it was Halloween weekend. So I had to shoot this entire movie only with the help of one other person. To make things more difficult, we were shooting on 35mm film.
I finally decided to release it to the world after getting really unexpectedly positive responses from friends. It’s best viewed if you have a nice sound system as well. Enjoy the film, and if you have a job for me in the LA area, feel free to contact me.

How can you include a hand grenade sequence, and think it sufficient to simply dish up some poorly chosen low quality audio of an explosion. How hard is it to zoom in tight on the hunted actor, and shovel dirt/debris/leaves across the face of the camera lens. I also would’ve immediately followed the concussion with a high pitched ringing noise to carry some extra weight audio-wise for the believability of the explosion. But in this case, nothing visual to carry the viewer, only a very cheap, paper-thin sound of an explosion happening off-camera. Not even a strong camera shake. The camera shakes like crazy when nothing is happening, but when the grenade goes off, the camera does nothing. How odd.

good writing. dialogue is sufficient and to the point. would like to read the script.
remove overexposed bit (i think white glow or some stupid effect was used) at the beginning. maybe replace entire soundtrack (i love the batman ost but copyright issues could arise). needs more ambient sounds when they are deeper in the woods. dont use sampled sounds that much. go out record ur own ones quick and then overlay those. there needs to be one or more EXC of the face of the haunted man, would itensify emotions greatly. maybe some fake sweat or something would add atmosphere. + hes not actually gone for 3 minutes real time, so maybe make it 3 minutse in real time as well.

Nice, I liked the circular story

This is a very good video! I loved the suspense as well as the twist in the end. It is very similar to Richard Connell’s short story, The Most Dangerous Game. But that is also a very good story. So yea, I would give it 4 and a half stars!

Damn, man. I thought it was great. Superb short.

    Fun story! Good, quick, satisfying.

I thought it was a good effort and I see too many people being very critical for what seems like no reason at all. I’d like to know if they make films or just sit around criticising other peoples work. Its fine.

Have your say
