The people over at Disney Consumer Products were looking to do something different and new with their Back to School campaign this year. Last year they held a fashion show and video taped the event.
A video like this was definitely a bit different than they types of projects that I normally do, but that was the beauty of the challenge. The idea we were trying to convey was confidence. Everyone loves new clothes. You know why? Because it gives you confidence. And a little confidence boost on the first day of school when nerves are running high is really what helps get kids (and adults) through the day. So we pitched an idea the posed the question, “What would the most awesome first day of school be like?”
PRODUCTION
Filming this thing was a combination of stop motion illustrations and live action. One of the most important aspects of the shoot was to feature the clothes, and we were able to find a way to feature the clothes in the animation as well as in live action.
The drawings were done through a combination of hand-drawing and computer-coloring by Tatiana Krasovski — who, by the way, is one of the most knowledgable people I’ve ever met in the world of graphic design and illustration. You can check out her blog of the video here.
I’ll be posting photos as soon as I get the OK from Disney, so stay tuned…
